Rod is the author of Leveling the Playing Field documenting how technology has changed our society. He covers why the encryption debate is so important for the preservation of our rights, and why some governments want to restrict access to encryption technology.

Scher currently serves as the Cybersecurity Coordinator for Sandhills Publishing as well as an instructor in the Southeast Community College English department. He served as Editor for Smart Computing Magazine where he wrote and edited engaging and informative technology-related articles; designed the monthly editorial calendar; and worked with freelancers, staff writers, and sales staff to ensure the timely flow of accurate information through the editorial pipeline. While at Smart Computing, Rod also wrote technology-oriented news & feature pieces for the Sandhills Publishing family of magazines: Smart Computing, CPU, PC Today, Processor, and First Glimpse. As Vice President of Technology and Learning at Class.com, he evaluated (and budgeted for) software projects related to the creation and delivery of online courses using a variety of learning management systems and coordinated and monitored those projects to ensure on-time delivery of content and software.
