Bill is an analyst/programmer/operator, striving to become fully retired. He let the US Air Force train him to repair and program computers back in the days of TTL circuitry, punch cards, and 9-track tapes. Bill now mostly works on what he refers to as “steam-powered” computer systems: IBM 360/370, FORTRAN, BAL, VAX, Alpha, VMS, COBOL, CP/M, etc. If the system is older than most of its users, let’s talk. If you develop a program that uses a two-digit year, Bill is the guy rapping your fingers with a steel programmer’s ruler. He considers the BOFH to be a mentor and likes sci-fi, cats, technology, and dancing.
